So many awards; more shame for US Malayalees
Why is this craze for giving and receiving awards among American Malayalees?
It has become like a virus in the community.
If you want to promote your friends, the best way is to declare an award.
Peter Neendoor in an article laughed at these calling for a ‘Kozhi Thooval Award.”
Unlike in earlier times, even in Kerala’s villages there are facilities to conduct a mini convention and awards event. So it is not a very expensive thing too.
How to stop this mania?

The awards ceremony in Mallappally is not a Fomaa program. It is a personal show of Aniyan George, who is acting as teh godfather of Fomaa.
He gives awards to his own friends!

We all should support the yoing and dynamic Roy Chengannoor as Fomaa president. Baby Uralil is an old time politician. we need young blood.

It is not an American-Malayali phenomena but a trend among most Indian activities everywhere. From Bachan to Mammooty-Lals, numerous award shows, state by state, are widespread in India. In America, as you can see in this news media the very same trend is copied by local Indian organizations and religious units. You can also see the fobs (fresh off the boat) are much interested in these type of award ceremonies and activities (they also love to publish their pictures, names along with their loved ones too). It is a pride for them and jealous for those who couldn’t win it, something unusual in Western societies. If you are sixty or seventy at age, you have seen many of these guys came to your screen several times over the time. It still continuous.
It has some bad effects in our society too, I believe. We don’t see much talent in our young people. The new seventeen year old’s dream makers are still fat-ass Mammooty and Lal people rather than someone of their age and time. These fat-asses ruin the dreams of our young people in general. You can see in their TV, the youngsters are encouraged to sing like Yesudas and act like Mammooty or Lal. Otherwise it doesn’t fit. You can see backwardness among Indians in every field. The fact that many third-world countries developed much faster and better than India in the last 20 years (computer and medical coolies have something else to say, I know). China is a superpower at next-door! There is no encouragement for a new generation in India like in the Western society or as in China; all the old cats are still running the show everywhere in Indian life. No new talent. I know many Indians do not like to hear or admit this fact because they are very proud people and love to hear praises from others that they are some “Smart Asses”. That is the psychology of Indian award shows. My two cents.
