Both Fokana and Fomaa conventions will be over by July 5. Only a few more days. Once the conventions are over, hopefully normalcy will be restored. The heat and dust craated by the case and the split will die down.

Many of the old time leaders will also leave the scene. In such a scenario, is there any possibility for unity again?

At both conventions, there is no election next week. Both groups said the election will be conducted within three months.

Fokana Trustee Board said they will accept subscription fee from all organizations before conducting the election. The only question is, will they conduct election for all posts?

Is there any way that all associations join together and elect non-controversial leaders to create unity?

No fun in these conventions: Kanji

Hello My dear friends, there are people writing saying that They are Abraham Kanji. It is a shame, who ever writing they are cowards. We have two conventions,two groups ,let us think as an ordinary malayalee in this country. I just log in e malayalee, we see officials of Fokana and fomaa advertising their conventions and asking people to come to their conventions.

All malayalees are disapointed about the two groups and the leaders of this Fomaa and Fokana. I think these leaders are not true leaders,only for themselves and they are fooling american malayalees.just see how many politicians are coming to these conventions. who wants to go to these conventions. Please dont be fooled by the leaders of Fokana and Fomaa.My dear friends, these so called leaders are not true leaders,they had lots of opportunities to reconcile and work together for the betterment of mlayalee community.

But they seperated and split Fokana and now they are advertising people to come to Houston and philadelphia with American malayalees’ money.

Fokana was fun, people from all over America and Canada got together, enjoyed the programes and met people and went back home. This is not happening with these conventions, so I am not interested in attending these conventions.

I hope the so called leaders work together and have only one Fokana.

The conventions in Houston and Philly are away by a few days only. Let us make both conventions a grand success.

Once the conventions are over, people may return to normalcy. Let us see if something good will hapen later

It seems it is futile to fight any more. We have to accept the reality. Fokana is split and Fomaa is a fact. Ok. Let us accept things as it is.

There is no harm in having two organizations. (nothing good either!) Let them produce some results by serving both the Keralites in the US and also in Kerala.

Local associations may face immediate problems. Since both organizations are ‘federations’ of local organizations, both need them. When one association joins with one group, some of the members will join with the other. So a split cannot be avoided.

Or is their any way to avoid a split at the local level? Is it bad to have two local organizations?

Fokana and Foma

Since Foma is a reality, the question arises. Whom should the people support? What will happen to local associations?

If the local association officials support one group, naturally there will be a split. Oraganizations like Westchester Malayalee Associations say that they will be united locally. Members can support either Fokana or Foma. Will this stand work for long?

Important decisions of the FOKANA Board of Trustee Meeting Held on Sunday May 18, 2008

The meeting of FOKANA Board of Trustees was held on Sunday May 18 at 305 Old Tarrytown Road, White Plains, N Y. The following members attended.

T.S.Chacko, Mathew Kokura, John Isaac, Aney Paul, Thampy Chacko, Paul Karukapillil, Suda Kartha

The meeting started at 2:30 pm with a silent prayer. Board Chairman Mr. T. S. Chacko in his opening remarks welcomed everyone and spoke about the court verdict by the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland of May 07, 2008. Mr. Chacko mentioned the need to bring all the member organizations and Keralities in North America to FOKANA and all decisions for the meeting should be focusing on it.

The following are the highlights from the meeting.

To notify Greater Houston Malaylee Association as follows.

The FOKANA Trustee Board resolved to authorize the current FOKANA officials, President Paul Karukapillil, Secretary Suda Kartha team to give leadership and support to the Greater Houston Malayalee Association to host the FOKANA Convention in Houston and Silver Jubilee Celebration in Philadelphia.

All decision including the new membership to FOKANA approved by George Koshy is invalid.
General Council Meeting 2008.

To call general council meeting on July 4 2008, and a subsequent general council meeting 90 days after the 2008 convention and meetings to submit the accounts and election of office bearers for 2008 - 2010.

General council Meeting to be held on Friday, July 4^th 2008 at the Valley Forge Convention Center PA.

To notify former Trustee Board Chairman (2004-2006) Joy Vachachira and secretary N G Mathew to transfer all FOKANA official documents, bank balance as certified check payable to FOKANA, unused checks, and all official FOKANA documents that received from the past FOKANA Trustee Chairman transferred to Board of Trustee Chairman T.S. Chacko by May 30 2008.

Appoint Dr. Parthasarathy Pillai as the FOKANA resident agent in the state of Maryland.
To notify all FOKANA member organization to renew the membership.

The meeting ended at 6:30 pm with vote of thanks by Vice Chairman Mathew Kokura.

The FOKANA Board of Trustees meeting held on May 18, 2008 has reviewed the court verdict by the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland of May 07, 2008. The Board also reviewed the efforts taken by the Greater Houston Malayalee Association for hosting the 2008 convention in Houston. The Board decided to bring the following proposal for your consideration.

Chalo Houston; Chalo Philly

So we have two associations, two conventions. There is no point in crying for unity anymore.

What can the ordinary mallu do now? Not much. But we have to ensure that the conventions are a success. We have seen the hard work of people for the success of the conventions-especaiily the one in Houston. Many people spent much time, energy and money for it.

The leaders may have groups. But ordinary mallus are least worried of the groups. So let us go to the conventions, enjoy the events, interact with the people.

Houston convention is on July 1-4 and Philly convention is on July 4-5. So there is no clash too.

Welcome to FOMAA (Federation of Malayalee Associations of America) and FOKANA.

The people want unity though some leaders prefer quarrels for all the time. Paul Karukappilli and team should show their leadership quality by initiating the process for unity.

In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland Fokana and TS Chacko Vs

George Koshy, Sasidharan nair and Aniyan George Order Upon consideration of the complaint and the counter complaint, and consistent with the Court’s oral opinion of May 7, 2008, the court finds that the election by the members of the General Council of Fokana in June 2006 was null and void and did not result in the election of any duly elected officers of Fokana. Consequently, pursuant to Article VI, 4 of the Bylaws, the Fokana officers of 2004-2006 remained the legitimate officers of Fokana until such time as the General council could elect new officers. In January, 2008, the general Council met and duly elected new officers. The actions of Mr George and others to elect new officers of Fokana were unauthorized by the Fokana bylaws and therefore are deemed to be null and void. Therefore, it is this 7th day of May, 2008 by the Circuit Court of Montgomery county,

Ordered, that defendant George Koshy is permanently enjoined from misrepresenting to any person that he is the Chairman of Fokana board of trustees and it is further, Ordered that Defendant Sasidharan nair is permanently enjoined from mirepresenting to any person that he is the President of Fokana unless elected to said office by the Fokana general council, and it is further,

Fokana: Karukappilli group wins

(The following is an unofficial report. We have not received the court paper yet. So there could be mistakes. Sorry about that)

The Montgomery County Superior Court in Maryland accepted Paul Karukappillil as president of Fokana and TS Chacko as the trustee board chair.

It said the trustee board meeting that elected George Koshy as chair on August 19, 2007, was invalid. Also only six people were trustee board members. The 3 people who were elected during the Orlando convention had no right to participate in the trustee board meeting.

Once the court invalidated the election, George Korath and john Issac should have continued.

The general council notice issued by Aniyan George was invalid. It should have been done by John issac.

The May 27, 2007 meeting that elected TS Chacko as trustee board chiar was valid. The trustee board co-opting three more new people was also valid.

The election by phone was invalid. The Fokana constitution says that a phone election can be conducted to fill vacancies arising due to death or resignation.

The general council on January 19, 2008 that elected Paul Karukappillil and team was valid.

The court issued seven permanent injunctions. It said that Sasdharan Nair, Aniyan George and George Koshy should not do any asset mangement, or other dealings for Fokana.

The counter petition by Sasidharan Nair group was also rejected for lack of evidence.

The judgment did not say anything about convention venue. When asked, the judge said the general council will decide on that.

Fokana: update

The Montgomery County Superior Court will pronounce its verdict in the Fokana case tomorrow at 10 am (May-7), it is expected. Today (May 6) five people gave their testimony.

From the TS group, Dr. M Anirudhan, George Korath and John Issac and from the official group George Koshy and Sasidharan Nair testified.

About 35 people from both groups were at the court. Of this, around 26 were from TS group.

Fokana: The importance of May 6

The Montgomery County Superior Court will hear the arguments of both groups on May 6. The court may pronounce its judgment soon.

What will happen after that? There are three possible scenarios.

1) Karukappilly and team loses.

2) Sasidharan Nair and team loses.

3) The court asks to conduct another election.

The court may recognize one group as the real Fokana. Then the other group has to appeal the decision to conduct the July convention. If the court asks to conduct an election based on 2006 list, still it will create problems for the convention(s)

Or is it possible to unite after May 6? Anyway, both conventions should be held as the hotels were booked and lot of money is involved.

WHY I AM RUNNING AS THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF FOKANA? PRESS CLUB DID A WONDERFUL JOB TO UNITE THE ORGANIZATION.

BUT TWO GROUPS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THEIR PROPOSALS. KARUKAPALLIL GROUP WANTS THE 2010 CONVENTION IN NEW YORK AND JOHN TITUS ALSO WANTS THE 2010 CONVENTION IN LAS VEGAS OR ELSEWHERE IN WEST COAST.

THE TWO GROUPS ARE WORKING HARD TO SPLIT FOKANA AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT IS VERY SAD TO SEE THE SITUATION OF THE GREAT ASSOCIATION. THE SO CALLED LEADERS ARE WORKING TO SPLIT FOKANA. ONE CONVETION IN HOUSTON, AT THE SAME TIME ANOTHER CONVENTION IN PHILADELPHIA.

WE ARE ALSO GOING TO HAVE TWO CONVENTIONS IN 2010. ONE IN THE WEST COSAT AND ANOTHER IN NEW YORK. HOW CAN WE STOP THIS ? WE NEED TO WORK HARD TO UNITE FOKANA AND TAKE IT TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION.

I AM RUNNING AS THE PRESIDENT OF FOKANA IN THE NEXT ELECTION AND BRING THE CONVENTION TO NEW YORK. I HAVE A NEW UNITED FOKANA GROUP ME TO BRING THE CONVENTION TO NEW YORK THROUGH ELECTION.

THE GENERAL COUNCIL AND DELEGATES DECIDE ON THE NEW LOCATION. THEY WILL ELECT THE NEXT FOKANA PRESIDENT AND OTHER OFFICIALS. THIS IS A DEMOCRATIC PROCESS AND I FEEL IF WE BRING THE CONVENTION TO NEW YORK AND ACCOMADATE KARUKAPALLIL GROUP IN NEW YORK CONVETION WHICH THEY ALREADY WANT, FOKANA WILL UNITE TOGETHER AGAIN.

WE CONDUCTED YOUTH FESTIVALS IN EVERY REGION, GREAT. WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TAKE FEW WINNERS TO KERALA CONVENTION. BUT WE COULD NT TAKE THEM. I NEVER WANTED A KERALA CONVENTION WITHOUT THESE WINNERS. IDID NOT ATTEND THE KERALA CONVENTION.

WE ALL SAW THE PICTURES IN ALL THE NEWS PAPPERS, IT WAS GREAT PUBLICITY, LOTS OF ARCHES THROUGH OUT KERALA. MY FRIENDS WHAT WE ACHIEVED OUT OF THIS KERALA CONVENTIONS. BESIDES THE PRESIDENT AND OFFICIALS SHOW OFF THEIR MONEY STREGTH AND ASK PEOPLE TO SPONSER THE CONVENTION IN KERALA PROMISING THEM AIRPORTS AND HOSPITALS.

WHAT WE DID FOR THE PEOPLE IN KERALA? THIS WAS JUST LIKE THE KERALA CONVENTION IN KOVALAM, WHEN GEORGE KOSHY WAS THE PRESIDENT.

THEY HAD BANQUET AT WINDSOR CASTLE HOTEL, BOAT RIDES AND PUBLIC MEETING WITH FEW MINISTERS. I HEARD ONE OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS HAD TO TALK LOUD TO GET TWO LAKHS PROMISED FOR DIABETIC PROGRAME WE PROMISED AT KIDANGORE HOSPITAL.

I HAVE A HUMBLE REQUEST FOR THE TWO PRESIDNTS. IF YOU PROMISE PEOPLE IT IS YOUR DUTY TO FULFILL THAT BEFORE YOU GO FOR OTHER PROJECTS.

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS. I DONT WANT TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF FOKANA, I AM FEELING SAD LIKE ANY MALAYALEE WHEN WE DIVIDE FOKANA WITH TWO CONVENTIONS AND TWO PRESIDENTS. I WAS IN TOUCH WITH THE LEADERS OF BOTH GROUPS AND I FELT WE COULD UNITE TOGETHER IN PHILADELPIA.

I WAS NOT GOING TO ATTEND ANY OF THE TWO KICKOFFS, BUT I THOUGHT THERE IS A CHANCE TO UNITE TWO GROUPS. IT WAS GOING GOOD, AFTER THE KCKOFFS SASHIDARAN NAIR AND PAUL KARUKAPALLIL TALKED AND SASHI ASKED PAUL TO COME TO HIS HOTEL HOLIDAY INN, I WAS ALSO STAYING IN THE SAME HOTEL. PAUL AND ALL HIS GROUP CAME TO THE HOTEL AROUND 11PM.

THEY WERE SITTING AT THE LOBY AND I WAS PLEASED TO SEE THEM. SASHI WAS HAPPY AND I THOUGHT THEY WOULD TALK PRIVATELY IN HIS ROOM. SASHI WANTED TO TALK TO PAUL KARUKAPALLIL, BUT BEFORE THE TALK YOHANNAN SHANKARTHIL INSISTED HE WANTED TO BE PART OF THIS AND THEN PAUL KARUKAPALLIL GROUP GOT UPSET AND LEFT THE HOTEL.

Now Fokana Vice president Abraham kanji has come froward for unity in the organization (http://www.emalayalee.com/USKeralaNewsDetails.aspx?ID=1109)

Is it not too late for unity? Unless the court recognizes one group, can unity be possible? But a court decision may come only after the Houston convention.
